Had an enquiry about handbrake cables, apparently one of them is now on back order in Japan. There may be another batch made over there, impossible to guess.

ADL Blueprint list some of them... Toyota part numbers attached as well

46410-10080 - Front Handbrake Cable >6/92 ADT346106
46430-18010 - LH Rear Handbrake Cable >6/92 With ABS NYA
46430-18020 - LH Rear Handbrake Cable >6/92Without ABS NYA
46420-18010 - RH Rear Handbrake Cable >6/92With ABS NYA
46420-18020 - RH Rear Handbrake Cable >6/92Without ABS NYA

46410-10100 - Front Handbrake Cable 6/92>ADT346199
46430-10160 - LH Rear Handbrake Cable 6/92>With ABS ADT346321
46430-18030 - LH Rear Handbrake Cable 6/92>Without ABS ADT346203
46420-10190 - RH Rear Handbrake Cable 6/92>With ABS ADT346320
46420-18030 - RH Rear Handbrake Cable 6/92>Without ABS ADT346204

The early design, ie the most common, has not been made by Blueprint apart from the short front section.

Does anyone know what the differences between the early and late designs are? ABS variants are shared with Toyota Starlet Turbo, but the non-ABS part number is unique to Sera.

Hmm.

On a drum Sera there were no changes to the drum back plate, the rear wheel cylinders, the drums, the shoes, the springs, the handbrake actuating levers. Same story on the disc braked Sera, no changes to the other mechanical parts relating to the handbrake on the rear axle.

On the phase III cars the handbrake lever changed colour to the grey used in the phase III rather than the brown or blue of previous models. Maybe there is some other difference here? The handbrake shroud mounting bracket is different as well, although not sure why. I know the centre console trim changed colour, but maybe there is another change?

when you say ' on back order' is it just that the delivery hasn't come through though - they have had a bit more to worry about over there lately

My Sera is a PhaseI, Automatic with ABS - so my interpretation of the above is that the Toyota Starlet cable should work?

My experience, however, was that Toyota here had my car for two days when my cable broke and returned with something along the "the closest we could find was still slightly the wrong length. Not close enough that we were happy to fit it". I don't recall what cables they tried, but I'm pretty sure I pushed them in the direction of the Starlet. Maybe they didn't try the Turbo version :/

Angie - 46420-18010 & 46430-18010.   Also used on Starlet Turbos of same age.

Update - Toyota have no handbrake cables.

Eurocarpart http://www.eurocarpa...handbrake-cable   came up trumps, (they appear to get their brake parts from PAGID http://www.pagid.com/,  but the only right hand cable is in Aberdeen (I'm in Felixstowe!), so i'm having to wait for it to be shipped which is taking foooorrr evverrrrr..,,,,,

Really? I got mine about a year ago from Toyota, although it was the non-ABS version (even though the calipers were of an ABS AE82 GTT).
