what have you done with your old 5E-FHE pistons? i'me looking for a set

Still got them, don't have internet at home so checking back for messages is hard at the moment.

Where abouts are you located?

Users IP address suggests UK, so TheBauers set may be better than yours.

Heya mate, ever thought of using a T25 or T28 turbo off a silvia? Its the common turbo to use of 5efhe turbo builds over here in nz, you can even buy manifolds to bolt them straight on

TD04L's seem to be the norm here in the starlet scene atleast, I picked the turbo up from a mate a few years ago and its still in good condition, so pretty much the fact I've got one I'll probably go with installing it rather than trying to find another.

Ugh, I only notice this as I'm about to bolt the transmission together...

Does the Sera share the same flexplate to the EP82 Starlet?

Cracks? Could it be welded?

4E-FTE bolting pattern is different to the 5E-FHE, so I would say they're different.

Torque converter bolting pattern is the same but I don't know about flywheel outside diameter which may have implications regarding starter motor choice.

Hi Scuzzy,

I've just been reading this thread how is the conversion going? I'm actually leaning towards keeping and rebuilding the standard 5E motor and turbo converting it with the 4E head and bottom end

Noely, the head isn't much different, only the valve springs in the 4EFTE head are stronger than other E series engines.
Cam is best from 5EFHE, then 4EFTE, then 4/5 EFE.

I suspect a rebuild of the 5EFHE with lower compression (forged?) pistons might be enough to safely handle boost.
On a Starlet forum, I know of 2 4EFE N/A engines which had turbo bolted on and work. One blew the engine running 15psi, the other has been going for a month or so on something like 10psi and seems ok.

Yep definately lowering the compression and forged pistons for sure!

I've tried to become a member of AusStarlet 6 times and they will not accept my sign up request lol I've emailed their admin too no replies don't really understand why I can't sign up quite a shame.

How's your car going Graham? Anything new? I bought a Civic Alloy radiator waiting for it to arrive pretty excited about that. I have a mate who's a panel beater who can paint my side mirrors gloss jet black and the boot lip handle and the g5 bar so i'm getting onto that. Other than that about to order my custom plates soon too

I've seen lots of claims, mostly from the US about how you can just bolt a turbo to a 5E-FE/FHE and it won't go bang, but I must admit I'm not prepared to try it myself.

If you do, get the flywheel upgrade that allows you to use a Starlet Turbo clutch on a 5E crank, as the surface area increase of the clutch is significant.
