Greetings, Im a new Sera owner in the US, and love my car! All the articles Ive read say that there were only 15,852 cars made. However, I was watching a YouTube video from a Sera owner and noticed his VIN
number prominently shown, which is 16829. Anyone have an theory on this? Going to try and upload the screenshot I took from the video. Chassis numbers started at 1001, hope this explains the numbering issue.

There are also some gaps in the VINs before regular production started in Febuary 1990. Some pre-production runs were made in December 1989 and maybe not all of those cars passed quality control or made it to the point where a VIN was assigned for some other reason.

As far as I could find out regular production started with chassis number 0001030 (with exception of 0001015 which is listed with a production date in March 1990, but maybe that was a test mule getting re-entered into regular production).

My spreadsheet, and the online chassis number tools do not know about cars 1001 to 1012 inclusive, 1017-1019, 1021 and 1023-1028.

1013,1014, 1016, 1020, 1022 and 1029 all have a date of 12/1989 attached to them.  1015 has a date of 03/1990.

Then production starts in earnest February 1990 for a March 1990 release.

These could have been pre-production cars that could have been used for crash testing, for durability testing and/or initial magazine previews and once their requirements had been fulfilled they were destroyed.

No information on colours, trim or gearbox type.
